So I am taking my 87 suburban and doin some upgrades. Plans are 1 ton axles, custom suspension with the ability to tow heavy loads and be soft, Bumpers and racks, and double transfer or atlas transfer, some interior mods for custom storage. expedition style is what im shooting for and I also daily drive this. Today phase 1 went underway as the rearend was swapped with a full float 14 out of a 91 sub that was factory optioned. 90 and 91 saw the first full floats put into suburbans as GM was trying to get a piece of the public sector vehicle market. This made the swap very easy as the shock mounts and brakes/e-brake were a direct swap. I went thru the entire axle with new brakes and seals and I also had to put new shims in the diff itself (spider and side gears). I have the front 60 to go in next with new brakes and tie rods made from 1.5 DOM and weld in bungs. I am going to do this on monday so pics will follow then.

I wondered why it looked like you were working on the Burb when I drove by earlier. Sounds like an awesome project, I'll be watching for sure.

whew finally got it wrapped up this evening. Left my camera at the shop so I took some pics here at the house. Had to grease the wheel bearings, trunion bearings, replace the studs on the steering arm knuckle, make some studs for the pumpkin side u-bolt plate, make a spacer for under the pumpkin side plate, shorten the driveshaft 1.625 inches, make up the tie rod and draglink, and I had to machine in the groove on the drivers hub for the locking hub retaining ring because it was a full time 4 wheel hub, had to install the locking hubs, put some Aeon hollow springs for bumpstops, and remove the stock pumpkin bumpstop plate, put on new brakelines. All of that cause i wanted fancy schmancy chrome diff covers and wasny about to spend the money to get one for the 10 bolt front.;) Here are the [pics I have tonite.
